Basement lighting installation Milton ON

Picture
Long gone are the days when the basement was a cold, dark dungeon to hoard (ahem, store) your possessions.  These days the basement is such a useful piece of real estate within your own home to use as you please, from a home gym, additional kitchen or bar area for entertaining, play room, games/crafts/hobby room.  The ideas are endless!  One thing to keep in mind about the basement, however, is that although it typically has less natural light than the upper floors of your home, a mistake would be to compensate for this by adding very high lumen lights everywhere.  This can cause undue strain on your eyes, and make the environment not very inviting or cozy.  So you need some pre-planning before you decide on the amount, type and style of basement lighting.

Recessed lighting for finished basements is a popular choice as there is nothing jutting out, which would be of concern especially if the basement ceiling is lower than the main floor ceilings.  It also provides a nice amount of ambient light for a large space that would otherwise be dim due to its underground location and lack of natural light. Track lighting can also be considered to add an additional layer of lighting.  The light fixtures can be directed towards different areas of the basement that would benefit from the additional “highlight”. What about pendant lighting? Well, this would only be advised if your basement ceiling is high. Generally, the basement lighting can be kept simple with the base layer of potlights, added track lighting, and optional additional decorative lighting (for example string lighting or wall sconces).  If you were to Pinterest basement lighting, you can start brainstorming what kind of look you want to achieve.  However, in terms of the technical aspect, such as how many potlights to install, spacing, lumens, and many other considerations, feel free to ask us what would be the ideal choices in your situation.

The basement is also a good area to install dimmer switches.  You can change the mood and function of the room with dimmer switches, as in other rooms in your home such as the bedroom.  If you decide to install a laundry centre in the basement, which is a great idea by the way, make sure there is sufficent task lighting to help you sort through your clothes. And if you have a home theatre, there are other lighting considerations aside from adjusting the brightness of the room.

If you need to install recessed lighting, dimmer switches or other light fixtures in the basement, you will likely need experts to install these light fixtures for you.  There are technical aspects you may not have considered, and we will ensure we cover these for you.  We will provide expert service and quality as well as the proper recommendations for your space.
