Smart home installation Milton ON

Picture
Smart home have been buzzwords of late, and for good reason.  If you’re thinking about taking the plunge and adopting the smart home systems in your home, here are some compelling reasons for creating a smart home setup, even if you're not technologically inclined:

  1. Convenience:  repetitive or multiple steps can be reduced to automatic or one step.  For example, pressing one button to dim lights to watch a movie in a home theatre instead of going around the room turning off lights and switches makes for a simpler process.  Nothing beats this convenience.
  2. Safety: poor lighting is responsible for many accidents like tripping.  Installing a smart home light switch in a room can reduce these mishaps and ensure your and family's safety.
  3. Security: smart home automation provides a more affordable alternative to installing a home security system, which can be cost prohibitive for many homeowners.
  4. Savings: reduce your utility bills by up to 25% by having home automation control your lights and home thermostat.  Who wouldn't want that?
  5. Environment: a smart home installation lets you use the power when you actually need it, and saves energy in the long run by turning off appliances and lights when not in use.  Good for your hydro bill and the environment.  It's win-win.

Now that we’ve listed the reasons incorporating smart home technology is a good idea, let’s talk a little bit about the preparation of smart home wiring.  This applies especially during the new home construction phase, but can be changed later, although more difficult. In any case, you will be involving an electrician to perform these tasks.

Neutral wires are the preferred choice for home automation devices, so be sure to ask your licensed electrician to run neutral wires to all junction boxes.  Neutral wires require a three wire connection and apply to dimmers, keypads and other smart home devices. It is also a good idea to have your electrical contractor install deep junction boxes as they can more easily accommodate wall devices, and will make more room to work with.  Ask your electrical contractor as well to install cable conduits anywhere you think wires will be needed. They are used to run video cable, network cable and speaker wires. The conduits will be fed into junction boxes over which you can cover with faceplates until you need to use them.  Think about building a small wiring closet to store patch and distribution panels, and media servers. The closet is where you can install lots of cable conduits which much of the wiring will end up here.

Now that you know the basics about home automation, make sure you involve a licensed electrician to install it for you.  Mistakes can be dangerous or give you a headache when installed improperly. Our qualified electrical contractor will help you from start to finish.
